- Rothbardix-0.0.1 was released yesterday. This release is little more than rPath Linux group-core and sun-jdk (and a few others) - but it is very satisfying to have a familiar installation screen with Rothbardix/rBuilder branding! Rothbardix is envisioned to eventually have functionality that encompasses:
- leading open-source packages for e-commerce, enabling individual merchants to set up a web presence easily and quickly.
- new open-source software based on Internet and financial industry standards (FIX,FpML) that enables merchants to issue tradable financial instruments based on their inventory and ongoing operations. This will eventually enable individuals to benefit in a way similar to the way national governments and banks (but I repeat myself) benefit by issuing tickets for 1000000000000 grams of gold when they hold 10 grams of gold in their vaults. An anticipated result of this Rothbardix functionality is the real-life illustration of the essential association between theft and coercion and ticket (paper) monetary systems.
- facilities for physical surveillance - ZoneMinder is the first system targeted for inclusion. Financial mechanisms for creating real-time wide-area spatial awareness, and coordinating decisive responses to various physical security threats is another focus of Rothbardix.
- actuarial biometrology and medical imaging, and eventually a framework for personal genomics.
- low-cost 3D scanning and ad-hoc sensor arrays for situational awareness in close quarters, and other remote sensing methodologies.
- VLSI design, using Electric Editor and other open source tools.
- systems enabling individuals to use markets for blinded financial instruments to anticipate the outcome of national elections.
