The Appliance Administration pages contain information for installing, configuring, and maintaining an appliance based the rPath Appliance Platform.
Installation
Installation instructions may vary between appliances, but ISO images built with rBuilder have some basic steps that apply to all appliances unless developers have made appliance-specific modifications.
Configuration and Maintenance
Configuration and maintenance for an appliance can be performed through the rPath Appliance Platform Agent (rAPA) web interface which appliance developers can choose to include for web-based administration. Access the rAPA interface using one or either of the following in a web browser (depending on the appliance):
- https://<appliance_hostname>:8003 or http://<appliance_hostname>:8004
Initial configuration for the appliance is covered in the rAPA Configuration Wizard. The user installing the appliance should step through this wizard as soon as possible after installation.
Ongoing maintenance uses the tasks provided in the rAPA menu after the initial configuration. The following pages describe how to use rAPA for each task:
- Appliance Status -- View a description of the appliance as well as some basic appliance status information
- System Information -- View information about the underlying system, including hardware usage and the current version of installed software
- Appliance Logs -- View appliance logs to monitor appliance health
- Back Up and Restore -- Schedule appliance backups, and restore the appliance from a backup
- Change Password -- Change the password of the current user
- Collection Tool -- Collect and download important appliance information for use in monitoring and troubleshooting the appliance

- Configure Internet Proxy -- Configure the HTTP and HTTPS proxies used by the appliance
- Configure Networking -- Configure networking
- Configure Notification -- Configure how and where the appliance sends email notifications about system events
- Manage Entitlements -- Manage entitlements on the appliance
- Root Password -- Configure the password of the top administrator (root user) on the underlying operating system
- System Time -- Configure the time zone, system time, and Network Time Protocol (NTP) server
- Upload SSL Certificate -- Upload or regenerate an SSL X.509 certificate for the appliance
- Factory Reset -- (when available) Reset the appliance to its factory default state as originally supplied by the vendor
- Manage Services -- Manage services on the underlying operating system
- Schedule Reboot -- Schedule appliance reboots, and perform an on-demand reboot or shutdown
- Updates -- Check for and schedule appliance updates, and perform on-demand updates
- User Management -- Manage users and groups for the appliance agent interface
- View and Apply Rollbacks -- Roll back one or more recent appliance updates
