Appliance Administration:Factory Reset
From rPath Wiki
When the Upload Update Images feature is used for the rPath Appliance Platform Agent (rAPA), a Factory Reset task is added by default using the same underlying mechanism. In the Factory Reset task, a rAPA user can return an appliance to its state when it was originally deployed from the vendor.
A factory reset is a special type of update operation and works similarly to the Updates task. As in the Updates task, the appliance vendor provides an update image (in this case, one representing the factory default image) that can be uploaded to the appliance. After the upload, the appliance reboots to the factory reset image and gives administrators time to check the appliance health and integrity before making the reset permanent. Return to the same Factory Reset task to finalize a reset or to revert the appliance software to its state prior to the reset action.
Use the following steps to perform a factory reset of an appliance:
- Access and log in to the rPath Appliance Platform Agent web interface.
- Click Factory Reset from the rAPA menu at the left.
- Consider the caution text on the screen, the impact of the factory reset on the appliance, and the necessary steps you may want to take both before and after the reset.
- Click Reset to Factory Defaults to begin the reset, which should be followed by a reboot.
After a reset, administrators can select to reapply updates and restore data from backups.
