Appliance Administration:Upload Update Images

Appliance Administration --> Updates --> Upload Update Images

On some appliances, the default Updates task in the rPath Appliance Platform Agent (rAPA) is replaced with a mechanism that uploads an entire appliance update image and reboots the appliance to the newer image. Appliance administrators can test the new image prior to finalizing to the update, and they can revert the appliance software to its pre-update state if the update does not work as desired.

Click Browse to identify an update image file if one is provided by the appliance vendor and available from your local system. Then, click Upload to upload the image, which is followed by an appliance reboot.

Click Check for Updates to search the vendor's website for an update image file.

After verifying the appliance health and integrity, return to the same Updates task page and do one of the following as appropriate:

  • Click Finalize Update to make the update permanent.
  • Use Schedule Reboot to perform an on-demand appliance reboot which boots to the previous appliance image. Return to the Updates task and click Revert to discard the update and continue using the appliance software as it was before the update.
Image:Bulbgraph.png   If the Updates task does not display the Finalize Update button, the appliance is configured to auto-finalize the update, marking the image as the "last known good" after the reboot. In some such appliances, administrators can still revert to the system by rebooting the system with console access and selecting the opposite partition than the bootloader's default. After this work-around boot, return to the Updates task and click Revert to mark the older image as the "last known good" and make it the bootloader.
