CentOS Delivered by rPath is a subset of the CentOS operating system, with Conary and rPath Platform Agent added. It is provided in Conary format as a platform for building products and appliances, and is available via rBuilder Online. When you build a new product in rBuilder Online, CentOS Delivered by rPath is one of the available platform choices.
To receive both security and maintenance updates, subscribe to centos-announce@lists.rpath.com. Updates to the CentOS operating system are provided as updates to CentOS Delivered by rPath on a regular basis, and are normally available within hours of their public release in CentOS.
CentOS Delivered by rPath contains of all the base software required for a "LAMP stack" (Linux, the Apache HTTP server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, PHP, and Python) on which to deploy server applications. It is not a desktop environment, nor does it include every server application included in CentOS. It also contains Conary and the rPath Platform Agent for system management. Conary provides the command-line software update mechanism, and the Agent provides a broader set of system management facilities, including software update but also system configuration, available via both web browser and an XML-RPC interface.
CentOS Delivered by rPath is packaged in Conary format, giving you all the benefits of Conary for defining and deploying appliances and operating system images that are based on the CentOS Delivered by rPath platform. As a result, a particular difference between CentOS and CentOS Delivered by rPath is that instead of running RPM scripts during the software installation and update processes, Conary tag handlers are used, which makes it possible to robustly roll back system software updates.
CentOS Delivered by rPath is a base platform on top of which to build your own customized product. You choose the elements of the platform that you need, and add to them the elements that you requires that are not part of the base CentOS Delivered by rPath platform. You can add to your product additional packages from CentOS as well as packages of your own.
