rBuilder:Appliance Development

From rPath Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

rPath created rBuilder as the primary tool for developing and distributing Conary-based software appliances and virtual appliances. At its most basic, appliance building with rBuilder consists of grouping a software application with just enough operating system and supporting software to ensure the application can run optimally on server hardware and popular hypervisors.

rMake is used together with rBuilder to develop appliances. rPath's instructions for appliance development with rBuilder and rMake are in a convenient hands-on guide, which can be accompanied by a free pre-configured development image:

rPath also offers instructor-led training for developing appliances and using rPath products:

rBuilder is an appliance and should NOT be accessed by command line except for rare troubleshooting tasks by system administrators (see the rBuilder Administration Guide). Appliance development with rMake and other tools should be performed in a separate development environment that is configured to interact with rBuilder over a network connection.
