Using Appliance Creator
To use Appliance Creator, you must first have commit access to an rBuilder repository and be logged in. You must also have a product version defined for the product you are creating the appliance for. Once these steps have been accomplished:
Step 1
- On the product homepage, click on Manage the Product Name Appliance (where product name is the name of your product). Click the Create Appliance button to begin the wizard.
Step 2
- Upload the binary archive you wish to create an appliance for using the Browse button to select and the Upload button to upload.
Depending on the size of the binary archive and the rBuilder Online server load, the upload and build portion of may take an extended period of time. Step 3
- Appliance Creator has selected a list of possible package type(s) to use with the archive that you uploaded, and has gathered as much information from it as possible. Please confirm the correct package type, and verify the information displayed. Double check these values to ensure they are correct. When you are satisfied with the information, click Create Package. The process is finished when the message Build finished, package committed. is displayed. You may also choose to view the build log of the build process by clicking the provided link.
Step 4
Now that the package you wish to include in your appliance has been uploaded and built you are given two options:
- Create a new package
- Select Additional Packages
- Choose Create a new package to upload another binary archive and repeat Steps 1-3 above.
- Choose Select Additional Packages if you are finished adding packages and are ready to select packages to be added as part of your appliance.
Step 5
- To include packages on your appliance, check the box of the package you wish to include. After you have selected those packages, click the Select Packages button. You may also choose to use the search box to quickly find the name of a package you are looking for. You must type at least two letters before the search box begins to search for results. When the package selector finds a result, it will display it above the package selection box. Click on the link to select the package for inclusion.
- On the following screen, confirm your selection and click the Update Contents button to add the selected packages to be included in your appliance.
- Click Build Appliance to begin building the appliance. Depending on its contents, the process may take some time. The process is finished when the message Build finished, package committed. is displayed. You may also choose to view the build log of the build process by clicking the provided link.
The new arbitrary package selector displayed in the picture above has been found in some cases to cause older versions of Internet Explorer 6 and 7 to hang. IE6/7 SP3 fixed this issue. Step 6
- After Appliance Creator has finished building, click the Generate Images button to generate images that you selected previously for the current product version.
