rBuilder Online:Groups
From rPath Wiki
An appliance group is an item in a Conary repository referring to a selection of packages and other "sub"-groups which are assembled to create a software appliance or virtual appliance. Derivative distributions that do not follow the appliance model, such as end-user desktops, can also be assembled with a Conary group. A group recipe defines the things that are included in the group, and the group itself is the primary resource when appliances and other Conary-based systems check the prodeuct repository for updates.
In rBuilder Online, these groups can be created with Group Builder, a web-based tool for selecting packages and sub-groups to go into the group that defines the appliance or derivative distribution. Product owners and developers can create and edit these groups from the product's Group Builder page which can be accessed from the Product Resources panel.
For more control over the group and what goes in it, rBO users can use command-line-level Appliance Development tools, like rMake, when building groups. This is also the recommended way of developing appliance groups when using an internally-deployed rBuilder appliance rather than rBuilder Online. Read Application to Appliance: A Hands-on Guide for more information about appliance building with rMake and rBuilder.
