rBuilder Talk:Add VMware Tools to Projects
From rPath Wiki
Can't wait !
I'm having great difficulty and keep getting
linux/config.h : No such file or directory
whenever I run vmware-config-tools.pl
Thanks for your comment! We're working on the last details of getting the tools in rBuilder, and we look forward to making those available for quick and convenient addition of the tools to the rBuilder group. Be sure to watch the page here for notice when the option goes live, which will be very soon. :-)

Our first step in the area of including VMware tools in rBuilder projects is now available using the instructions provided here: rBuilder:Add_VMware_Tools_to_Projects
open-vm-tools
Based on this advisory Template:advisories, using the open-vm-tools package handles this better than the VMwareTools package does at this point. I'll be trying to modify my recipes accordingly and hope to write about the transition in the near future. Mselnekovic 22:05, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
group-appliance
rPath_Linux:group-appliance describes using group-appliance; we haven't yet updated it for the fact that you no longer need to build an "addons" flavor to incorporate tools; if you build a vmware flavor of an ApplianceGroupRecipe you will get a working set of tools based on the contents of open-vm-tools as described in that advisory. Thanks for pointing out that this page also needs modification to point to the new tools. The key items for using the new tools are to use the vmware flavor of hwdata, kernel=conary.rpath.com@rpl:1-vmware, and open-vm-tools. Future builds of open-vm-tools may have fewer runtime requirements than current versions, as some of the depenedencies are being made optional upstream. MichaelKJohnson 22:13, 18 October 2007 (EDT)
