rBuilder Talk:rBuilder Online
From rPath Wiki

I am a broadband challenged Linux developer who'd love to create a live CD of a couple of open source projects that I faciliate.
Are there alternate ways to get setup for rBuilder development other than leaning of friends to download and cut CDs of the required toolsets etc.

Some downloads will be involved...
Bob -- A good question (though maybe a slightly tough one to answer). Let me give it a try...
While the use of rBuilder Online proper is primarily a Web-based experience, it requires the use of software packaged using Conary, rPath's packaging software.
This means, in essence, that you need to deploy a Conary-based environment (such as rPath Linux) that is local to you. So that would require downloading rPL ISOs (or the equivalent files for a virtualized rPL environment). So that would be one set of downloads that you'd have to ask your friends get for you.
Once you have that environment set up, you'd use it to package the software you want to make a part of your live CDs. As you do this, you'd commit the software to the repository of the rBuilder Online project(s) you set up for your live CDs. This phase requires uploading the packaged software and sources, but unless you're looking to make an OpenOffice.org live CD, this shouldn't be too much of a strain on your connectivity. :-)
After your rBuilder Online project(s) have everything ready, you can then create a live CD, which you can then download and test.
So while a broadband connection would certainly help, it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility that you could do this on the end of a modem connection.
