Installable software appliance images built with rBuilder use the Anaconda installer. Anaconda is an installation program originally created by Red Hat, Inc., and maintained as part of the Fedora™ project. See Anaconda's home page on the Fedora wiki for information on the software itself.

Using Anaconda to Install rPath Linux

Until rPath makes distribution-specific documents available for rPath Linux, see the Fedora project documentation for using the Anaconda installer and automating Anaconda.

Customizing Anaconda for Conary-based Software Appliances

Software appliance developers using rBuilder and rPath Linux include Anaconda customizations to brand the appliance and modify the installer to best fit the needs of the appliance.

Some typical reasons to customize Anaconda are to:

  • Modify the images in the graphical user interface
  • Modify steps in the install process
  • Customize package selection
